Offset your carbon footprint at your stag or hen do

Hen party celebrate with champagne in an outdoor hot tub

Event company highlights how to offset your carbon footprint as stag and hen dos contribute 500,000 tonnes of CO2 per year - and with 'green' weddings on the rise in 2020 you need to read this!

Hen and stag experts chillisauce.com have analysed their own onsite data to uncover whether the rise in being more eco-conscious has led to a decline in stag and hens abroad.
The events companies information on the most popular locations for stag and hen dos for 2019 show the disparity in travelling abroad, with the top five hen locations all being in the UK, while four of the top five stag locations were all abroad.

The most popular destinations for hen dos were found to be:

1. Liverpool - 9.3% (of total bookings)
2. Brighton - 8.3%
3. London - 9.8%
4. Cardiff - 5.2%
5. Edinburgh - 4.3%

The most popular destinations for stag dos were found to be:

1. Budapest - 8.6% (of total bookings)
2. Prague - 9.3%
3. Benidorm - 5.2%
4. Newcastle - 5.0%
5. Krakow - 4.4%

Whilst hen dos did see a 32% increase in UK bookings (and a decrease by 11% in bookings to Europe in a single year), stag groups continue to prefer to travel further afield (increasing by 6% in the past year), typically via plane – undoing any good work groups of girls may be doing for the environment.

Recent data on marriage implies there are roughly 250,000 marriages a year in the UK and the Chillisauce team found that 60% of all marriages are celebrated with a stag and hen do.

Taking these figures into consideration, it's predicted:· There are 300,000 stag and hen parties by UK residents each year· 90,000 stag parties go abroad each year· 37,500 hen parties go abroad each year· 1,260,000 UK men go on stag do's abroad each year (taking into consideration the average stag group size)· 525,000 UK women go on hen parties abroad each year (taking into consideration the average hen do size)· 1,785,000 UK men and women go on stag or hen parties overall each year· 446,250,000 kg of Carbon Dioxide is created by UK stag and hen parties each year flying abroad.
To help towards carbon offsetting stag and hen groups that do choose to go abroad, Chillisauce have offered to match the contributions of all stag organisers who book a stag or hen party in February and March and donate to the World Land Trust.

James Baddiley from chillisauce.com commented: "Our research shows that we need to be conscious of the impact of stag and hen parties travel may have on the environment, along with what can done to offset carbon emissions. Whilst we wouldn't want people to be prevented from enjoying their last few nights of freedom before getting married abroad, it's important for the conversation to be had and for us to think about how we can go about offsetting the emissions generated during these flights."
