How to Shape Sensitive Brows: Safe Tweezing Tips for Eczema-Prone Skin Before Your Wedding

Flaky and sensitive brows are a common complaint during the summer months. If it's one that's affecting you, you may well be finding yourself desperate to solve this problem and shape your brows in time for your big day. You might be tempted to have them waxed or threaded, but this might cause the skin to flare up. So, brow expert and CEO of Rubis Tweezers Fides Baldesberger talks us through the alternatives. 

"The eyelid and brow area has thinner skin than the rest of the face which makes it weaker and more easily irritated. This weaker barrier allows allergens, irritants, and microbes to penetrate more easily which can lead to itchy, painful sensitivity.    

"We're constantly applying make-up, sunscreen, serums, and brow products to the skin which often contain fragrances, preservatives, dyes, or alcohols that can irritate eczema-prone skin still further. Sweat, pollution and temperature changes can affect the brow area as sweat and debris collect at the hairline. Worse still, when our skin is itchy, we tend to touch it more causing flare cycles!

"While waxing and threading are great options in the normal way, tinting and lamination use potentially skin-irritating adhesives, dyes and alkaline solutions while wax is made from pine tree resin that can also be an allergen.

"Threading and waxing both take off the top protective layer of the skin which can be a problem when we go to apply colour.

"As your wedding day is so important I would advise tweezing as it avoids most of the common triggers.  If you do tweeze your brows, ensure to disinfect the tweezers before and after use, choose to tweeze after a bath or shower when pores are open, and apply a simple moisturiser to nourish the skin after use.

"Tweezing gives you more control and precision as it lets you remove only the hairs you want and because you can do so one hair at a time, you can avoid tweezing over inflamed or broken skin. Always pluck your brows in good natural light and don’t be tempted to take too many hairs from the top of the brow but be sure to remove the fluffy, often lighter hairs under the brows which can spoil the look of your makeup."
