As many of you know, there is so much thought that goes into popping the question. From choosing the perfect location to finding your dream photographer to capture the moment, it’s something that takes careful planning, but no matter how the proposal is executed, there is one common denominator: finding the perfect ring.

To find out about the rise in popularity of engagement rings for men and how to pick the perfect design for your special someone, we spoke to diamond expert Jake Asaad from jeweller GOODSTONE.

Who started the trend?
In the western world, engagement rings are most commonly sported by women. However, in a number of countries, such as Sweden, Chile, and Brazil, men also wear engagement rings to symbolise the commitment they have to their partners.

Now that companies are becoming more in the know, engagement rings for men are picking up speed more than ever before, with Google search data showing that roughly 8,300 people are searching for the term ‘men’s engagement rings’ each month.

Jewel of the aisle
More men than ever before are wearing jewellery. Even popular celebrities like Michael Bublé, Ryan Reynolds and Ed Sheeran have embraced the trend and happily show off their engagement rings, sometimes keeping them on alongside their wedding bands after getting married.

Finding the perfect fit
Major brands like Tiffany & Co and Brilliant Earth have launched their own line of sleek, thick-banded silver rings with a diamond. Known as the ‘Charles Tiffany Setting’, Tiffany & Co’s newest house engagement rings for men include a platinum setting with either a circular or square-cut diamond.

A number of online jewellery retailers have also popped up, giving couples the option to customise their ring with various styles, settings, jewel sizes and precious stones.

As this trend gains popularity and more jewellers become wise to this nearly untouched market, it is only a matter of time before a multitude of options become available.
