Morocco might be known for its bustling souks, vibrant colours and rich culture, but our stay at Kasbah d'Eau offered something quite different – a peaceful coastal retreat where we could truly switch off and enjoy some quality time together.

Just a short flight from London Stansted with Ryanair, before we knew it, we had swapped the grey skies of home for Morocco's warm sunshine and fresh Atlantic sea air. As soon as we landed, our driver was waiting to greet us, instantly removing any stress from the journey and allowing the holiday to begin the moment we arrived. The drive towards Essaouira offered our first glimpse of Morocco's rugged coastline, and with every mile the pace of everyday life seemed to slip further away.

By the time we reached Kasbah d'Eau, we already felt completely relaxed. Hidden away beside the beach, the hotel immediately delivered the sense of calm and escapism we'd been craving – the perfect setting to begin our honeymoon adventure.

SEASIDE SERENITY
Situated just outside Essaouira on Morocco's Atlantic coast, Kasbah d'Eau feels like a hidden oasis. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by how romantic the setting was. The boutique hotel sits in a charming beachfront location and combines traditional Moroccan character with a relaxed atmosphere. One of the biggest draws for us was the fact that the hotel has just 17 rooms. In a world of sprawling resorts and crowded hotel complexes, there was something special about staying somewhere so intimate. It never felt busy, and there was always a peaceful corner to retreat to. Whether we were relaxing by the pool, reading a book or simply enjoying the sea views, there was a sense of calm that made it easy to leave everyday life behind.

The outdoor swimming pool quickly became our favourite spot. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, it offered stunning views that seemed to stretch endlessly towards the horizon. We spent many hours lounging beside the water, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the tranquillity. It was the perfect place to slow down and savour the simple pleasure of spending time together. Inside, the hotel's boutique character really shines through. The service throughout our stay was exceptional. Every member of staff was friendly, attentive and genuinely eager to help. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, whether we needed advice on local attractions, assistance arranging transport or recommendations for places to visit. The personalised service made us feel looked after and added to the feeling that we were staying somewhere truly special.

Our room was equally impressive. Beautifully decorated with local influences, it felt authentic while still offering every comfort we could have wanted. The luxurious bath was perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring, while the sea views from our room created a romantic backdrop. One of our favourite rituals was spending time on our private balcony, watching horses and camels stroll along the beach below. It was one of those magical holiday moments that never seemed to lose its charm, no matter how many times we saw it. There were plenty of ways to relax between excursions. The cosy library became a favourite retreat during quieter afternoons, while the pool table provided some light-hearted competition. These thoughtful touches helped create a welcoming atmosphere that encouraged us to slow down and enjoy the surroundings.

FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD
The food was another highlight of our stay. Every meal was beautifully prepared, showcasing fresh ingredients and the rich flavours Morocco is so well known for. Whether enjoying a leisurely breakfast overlooking the ocean or settling in for a relaxed evening dinner as the sun began to set, each dining experience felt special and indulgent. Traditional Moroccan dishes were packed with flavour, from fragrant spices and freshly baked breads to beautifully cooked seafood inspired by the region's coastal setting. We particularly loved sampling the hotel's homemade food while sipping mint tea and soaking up the peaceful atmosphere. Combined with the attentive service, every meal felt personal and memorable in its own right. Make sure you try the hotel's herchas – they're absolutely delicious.

HIDDEN TREASURES
Although it would have been easy to spend our entire stay enjoying the hotel, Kasbah d'Eau also serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area. Just a short walk away, we discovered several charming cafés serving delicious food and drinks. For those wanting to venture further afield, the captivating coastal city of Essaouira is only around 20 minutes away by taxi. The hotel staff were happy to organise transport for us and even provided a helpful map, ensuring we felt completely taken care of throughout our stay. Their local knowledge proved invaluable and allowed us to make the most of our time in the region.

Essaouira itself was one of the highlights of our trip. This windswept port city is packed with character, from its historic medina to its bustling harbour. We loved wandering through the colourful streets lined with clothing, food stands and locally made goods. There was always something new to discover around every corner, whether it was a hidden courtyard, a traditional artisan workshop or a market stall overflowing with treasures. The harbour was particularly memorable. Watching the blue fishing boats bobbing in the water offered a fascinating glimpse into daily life, while the fresh sea air and coastal scenery made it a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. We enjoyed long walks along the beach, taking in the dramatic Atlantic views and soaking up the laid-back atmosphere that makes Essaouira so distinctive.

ADVENTURE AWAITS
One of the reasons Kasbah d'Eau works so well as a honeymoon destination is the variety of experiences available nearby. Couples looking for adventure can try activities such as surfing, kitesurfing, horse riding and camel trekking along the coast. For those seeking a deeper insight into Moroccan culture, there are opportunities to take cookery classes, join local guided tours or explore the surrounding countryside. Those in search of pure relaxation are equally well catered for. The hotel's spa provides the perfect opportunity to indulge in a treatment or two, while evenings can be spent gazing at the stars from the peaceful grounds.

BEYOND THE BEACH
For couples planning a longer Moroccan adventure, Kasbah d'Eau also combines beautifully with other regions of the country. Travel specialists Fleewinter have been creating tailor-made Moroccan itineraries for more than 20 years and can help couples seamlessly combine a relaxing coastal escape with the country's vibrant cities, mountain landscapes and unforgettable desert experiences. Couples can explore the surrounding countryside on guided coastal or argan forest walks, offering the chance to experience traditional Berber villages, dramatic dunes and hidden corners of the coastline that many visitors never see. One particularly memorable excursion combines a gentle coastal walk with a visit to a local Berber home, as well as the opportunity to see the waterfall closest to the ocean. Food lovers can also immerse themselves in Moroccan culture through local cooking experiences hosted on nearby farms, where guests can learn traditional techniques and recipes using fresh regional ingredients. For honeymooners wanting to extend their stay further, combining the calm of Essaouira with the energy of Marrakech, the Atlas Mountains or even a luxury Sahara Desert camp creates a richly varied Moroccan escape that balances relaxation, adventure and culture in equal measure.

As our stay came to an end, we realised just how refreshed we felt. In many ways, Kasbah d'Eau offers the best of both worlds. It's peaceful and secluded, allowing couples to disconnect from everyday life, while still offering plenty to see and do for those who want to explore. For us, it was the perfect honeymoon hideaway – a charming boutique retreat where spectacular ocean views, exceptional service and authentic Moroccan hospitality combined to create a truly memorable escape. If you're searching for a hidden oasis that balances relaxation, romance and adventure, Kasbah d'Eau is a destination that's well worth discovering.
