High school sweethearts

Flowers and fairytales were at the heart of Charlotte and Sean's big day

When Charlotte started sixth form at her high school, she never thought that she'd meet her future husband there. “Sean came from another school to ours at the start of Year 12. There was a spark right from the first day, we noticed each other straight away,” says Charlotte. They got closer and it wasn't long before they were going on their first date. “We were pretty young so we went to the local Indian restaurant. Sean was a total gentlemen and we actually ended up being the last people in there because we spent the whole time talking, laughing – and not eating. We knew instantly that there'd be another date – the next day!” she says.

A few years later the duo went on a dream holiday to Dubai and it was there that Sean gave Charlotte the perfect proposal. “We'd had the best time and it was our last night. Sean was acting a bit odd and I just thought it was the holiday blues kicking in early but it was actually his nerves,” she recalls. “It was New Years Eve and we were on our balcony surrounded by rose petals, champagne, tea lights and fireworks when all of a sudden he got down on one knee and I then realised what all the decoration was for! I had no idea, it was totally magical,” she adds.

Their special day took 18 months to organise and Charlotte loved it. “I adore making things look pretty so this was a dream for me. It was brilliant seeing it all come together on the day,” she says. Here Charlotte tells us more about it…

We had seven of my friends and family members as bridesmaids and my best friend's daughter, Scarlett, was our flowergirl. They wore peach floaty dresses, which they all loved.

High school sweethearts: Image 2I always thought I'd have a fishtail dress but how wrong I was! I felt like a princess, which totally matched our fairytale theme.

High school sweethearts: Image 2b I wanted a natural look and nothing too fancy. I wore my hair down and curled in a style I often wear and my make-up was natural with a slight smoky eye.

Sean left it up to three weeks before the wedding to have his suit made! His three best men and seven ushers wore navy suits with peach ties and handkerchiefs and our pageboy, Liam, wore a mini version of Sean's outfit.

High school sweethearts: Image 4For my bouquet I had a mix of pink, white and peach roses, hydrangeas and peonies and our bridesmaids held a bunch of white hydrangeas tied with a peach bow like their dresses.

High school sweethearts: Image 4b I always wanted a magical outdoor wedding with fairylights and lots of flowers and knew Micklefield Hall was the one. The pond and stairs reminded me of Cinderella!

I'm totally obsessed with blooms and they were a focal point of our day. We had an amazing display of candles and blossoms that ran from one end of the top table to the other.

High school sweethearts: Image 6For our centrepieces we had flowers matching my bouquet stood in glass bowls surrounded by little pots filled with tea lights and petals.

High school sweethearts: Image 6b We decorated the courtyard with tea lights placed in lanterns and jars that everyone collected for a year and filled watering cans with blooms.

We fell in love with the barn. It had a bright and airy look to it, which isn't what we expected.

High school sweethearts: Image 8My mum made our cake and spent a year trialling different styles for us. It was finished with matching flowers, each tier was a different flavour and our 'happily ever after' topper complemented our fairytale theme.

High school sweethearts: Image 8b Our favours were little bottles of pink fizzy wine with straws and thank you tags that were also name place cards.

Throughout the venue we had lots of frames with love quotes in and our hashtag for the wedding.

High school sweethearts: Image 10Our table plan was made using an old mirror and decorated with even more blooms!

High school sweethearts: Image 10b We created an 'Our story' frame with our favourite pictures of us together over the years.

We had fans for the ceremony that doubled up as the order of service.

High school sweethearts: Image 12Our 'pimp your prosecco bar' had a variety of fruits and homemade purées for guests to add to their drinks to make Bellini's and the drinks ladder went down a storm.

High school sweethearts: Image 12b The string trio played beautifully throughout the afternoon and even played some Disney songs and a band filled the dancefloor all evening.

Everything we'd worked hard for just fell into place. The flowers and venue looked stunning and Sophie our photographer captured so many natural shots perfectly.
