When Charlotte started sixth form at her high school, she never thought that she'd meet her future husband there. “Sean came from another school to ours at the start of Year 12. There was a spark right from the first day, we noticed each other straight away,” says Charlotte. They got closer and it wasn't long before they were going on their first date. “We were pretty young so we went to the local Indian restaurant. Sean was a total gentlemen and we actually ended up being the last people in there because we spent the whole time talking, laughing – and not eating. We knew instantly that there'd be another date – the next day!” she says.
A few years later the duo went on a dream holiday to Dubai and it was there that Sean gave Charlotte the perfect proposal. “We'd had the best time and it was our last night. Sean was acting a bit odd and I just thought it was the holiday blues kicking in early but it was actually his nerves,” she recalls. “It was New Years Eve and we were on our balcony surrounded by rose petals, champagne, tea lights and fireworks when all of a sudden he got down on one knee and I then realised what all the decoration was for! I had no idea, it was totally magical,” she adds.
Their special day took 18 months to organise and Charlotte loved it. “I adore making things look pretty so this was a dream for me. It was brilliant seeing it all come together on the day,” she says. Here Charlotte tells us more about it…
I always thought I'd have a fishtail dress but how wrong I was! I felt like a princess, which totally matched our fairytale theme.
I wanted a natural look and nothing too fancy. I wore my hair down and curled in a style I often wear and my make-up was natural with a slight smoky eye.
For my bouquet I had a mix of pink, white and peach roses, hydrangeas and peonies and our bridesmaids held a bunch of white hydrangeas tied with a peach bow like their dresses.
I always wanted a magical outdoor wedding with fairylights and lots of flowers and knew Micklefield Hall was the one. The pond and stairs reminded me of Cinderella!
For our centrepieces we had flowers matching my bouquet stood in glass bowls surrounded by little pots filled with tea lights and petals.
We decorated the courtyard with tea lights placed in lanterns and jars that everyone collected for a year and filled watering cans with blooms.
My mum made our cake and spent a year trialling different styles for us. It was finished with matching flowers, each tier was a different flavour and our 'happily ever after' topper complemented our fairytale theme.
Our favours were little bottles of pink fizzy wine with straws and thank you tags that were also name place cards.
Our table plan was made using an old mirror and decorated with even more blooms!
We created an 'Our story' frame with our favourite pictures of us together over the years.
Our 'pimp your prosecco bar' had a variety of fruits and homemade purées for guests to add to their drinks to make Bellini's and the drinks ladder went down a storm.
The string trio played beautifully throughout the afternoon and even played some Disney songs and a band filled the dancefloor all evening.
