What to do if your wedding day doesn’t go as planned
Many couples plan their wedding down to even the most minute of details, but ethical jewellery experts at Ingle & Rhode understand that unfortunately no one's big day goes exactly as planned.
You may forget something at home, some guests may be late or the day just might not be going how you envisioned it. That's why the team at Ingle & Rhode are giving their advice on what to do if your wedding day doesn't go exactly how you thought it would as well as providing tips on planning ahead with things like photography and weather - we do live in the UK after all!
Tim Ingle, founder of Ingle & Rhode said: “People put so much time into planning their wedding and the reality of it is, it never goes exactly how you planned. And whilst there is beauty in some mistakes like stumbling over vows, not all mishaps are that cute. If something has gone wrong at your wedding it’s important to have a moment to yourself to remind yourself of your priorities and what is actually important to you. “There are also things you can try your best to prevent by planning ahead. No one can control the weather but the best thing you can do is be prepared. We advise all couples to keep an eye on the forecast and have a bit of a plan according to it on the big day. “The most important thing to remember in the build up to your wedding day is that it is not worth stressing over things you cannot control. It’s far too much of an important day to spend it worrying over small inconveniences.”
What to do if your big day doesn’t go as planned: Remind yourself of your priorities: Yes it’s annoying that someone has bought an extra guest that you didn’t account for but in the grand scheme of your wedding day, how important is this? Your top priority should be yourself and your spouse.
Take a moment with your spouse: If you find the mishaps throughout the day are stressing you out, try taking a minute with your partner. This will ground you and remind you of what’s important and why you are there in the first place.
Plan your pictures: Your wedding images will live on for a lifetime so it’s understandable you want them to be as close to perfection as possible. If you have a particular vision in mind, talk to your photographer, tell them what sort of images you’re after and what kind you’d like to avoid. They may even suggest that you gather some inspiration images from places like Instagram and Pinterest.
Speak up: If it was a vendor that made a mistake on your wedding day then don’t be afraid to speak up after and make it clear that you were disappointed with the end result. You paid for a service and it should be delivered correctly. You may find that they offer you some money back.
Have a weather plan: Weather can be unpredictable so keep an eye on the forecast leading up to your big day and if it looks like it’s not going to meet your expectations, you can start to put together a contingency plan. Consider getting umbrellas, blankets and ponchos at your venue if the weather looks wet and ensure all wedding signs and outdoor decorations are strapped down and secure. Alternatively you may find the sun comes out on your wedding in which case you may want to consider getting some coolers and fans.
Look back at the good moments: It’s easy and natural to focus on what went wrong after your wedding day but try to shift your focus. Think about what went well and what your favourite moments were. Could it be your first dance? Speeches? Or perhaps something funny happened during the reception. Focus on all of the happy memories from your day.
Talk to family and friends: If something really bothered you on your wedding day, speak to your support system. They’ll be able to make you feel better and they may even let you know that the mistake you’re so worried about was hardly noticed by anyone else.
Remember you can’t control everything: Take a deep breath and remember that not everything is in your control. You can only plan so much and it’s not worth stressing over minute details on one of the most special days of yours and your partner's life.
