SilkFred reveal What to Wear to a Summer Wedding (In a Heatwave)

A summery wedding guest dress by SilkFred

Head stylist at SilkFred, Megan Watkins, has shared some practical advice on how to style yourself for a wedding when it's 30 degrees and rising whether it's a city ceremony or a countryside affair.

Her focus? Pick light, floaty and breathable fabrics, clever accessories, and avoiding anything that sticks, clings or overheats. You want movement and airflow – think loose midis, breezy wrap dresses and anything made from linen, cotton or chiffon. Megan says, "Natural fibres are your best friend in the heat. A cotton sundress or a light chiffon slip will keep you cool without compromising on style. Avoid anything too tight or structured – it's all about floaty and flattering."

Megan also shares how to stick to lighter colours. She says, "Lighter colours don't just reflect heat – they also feel fresher and more in keeping with the summer vibe. Pastels, soft florals or champagne tones are a beautiful and wedding-appropriate way to stay cool."

Megan also tells how to elevante your bridal look with accessories but keep it minimal. She says, "You don't want layers or heavy embellishment. Instead, choose one hero accessory – like a raffia clutch, gold hoops or a statement headband – and let your outfit breathe around it."

Its also important to opt for low-maintenance hair and fuss-free glamour because the last thing you want is your glam sliding off mid-ceremony. Megan suggests, "A sleek bun or loose waves are perfect for heat. Go for lightweight makeup, a good setting spray, and add a pair of oversized sunnies – they're chic and they hide a multitude of sins if it's a long day in the sun."

Finally, choose comfortable shoes that you won't sink in - heels and heat rarely mix, especially on grass. Megan says, "If it's an outdoor wedding, consider espadrilles, wedges or a block heel. Comfort is key, and nothing ruins a gorgeous outfit faster than hobbling across a lawn in stilettos."
