Cakes of Good Taste help you find your bake

Cakes of Good Taste help you find your bake: Image 1 Choices are endless when it comes to finding your wedding cake. Here, Susan Halil, owner of Hertfordshire's Cakes of Good Taste, shares some helpful tips to help you find the perfect showstopper...

  • Pinterest: Save examples of cakes that appeal to you and you'll soon start to see common themes appearing. There may be cakes in their entirety that you like, there may be just certain elements or details.
  • Wedding fairs: Cakes can look different in real life, so a visit to a wedding fair is good chance to see real life versions.
  • Size versus amount of cake: The look is one thing, how much cake you need is another. You may love the look of multi-tiered cakes or deep tiered cakes. In both cases it's unlikely that you'll need that amount of cake. We solve this problem by adding fake tiers where needed.
  • What will be your design inspiration? Think about your overall colour scheme, invite design, dress details, colours in the bridal bouquet, decorating technique.
  • Budget: It's good idea to have a budget in mind. The real cost of a cake isn't so much in the cake itself but how long it might take to decorate.
  • Delivery: Have it delivered by your pro! There's often a delivery and set up charge but it's worth knowing that it will be delivered safely and set-up professionally in your venue. Generally, cakes that are over 3 tiers, have deep tiers or have delicate sugar work must be delivered by a cake expert.
